The Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education honored four students as Students of the Month at their meeting on January 27th, 2015: (from left): Mary Perez from J.C. Harmon High School, Kamari Knott from the KCK Early Childhood Center, Kaitlyn Maichel from New Stanley Elementary School, and Pajah Vang from White Church Elementary School.

That the Kansas City Board of Education recognize Kamari Knott from KCK Early Childhood Center, Kaitlyn Maichel from New Stanley Elementary, Pajah Vang from White Church Elementary, and Mary Perez from J.C. Harmon High School as Students of the Month as recommended by Dr. Cynthia Lane, Superintendent of Schools.

Kamari Knott, Pre-K
KCK Early Childhood Center
Nominated by: Andrea Netzer Murray & Abby Jones, Preschool Teachers

“In my 11 years of teaching I have been touched by many students, but Kamari has created a feeling of love that I have never felt before.  He is truly compassionate in all that he does.  He goes out of his way to help his peers feel accepted and care for.  He shows unconditional love daily, but on the last day before winter break he truly amazed us and our class.  Kamari’s mom came to our classroom door with her hands full of gift sacks, a gift for each student in our class.  He had chosen a gift for each student and his generosity brought me to tears.  Kamari may not remember his preschool teacher in a few years, but he has surely left a lasting impact on me.”

Sincerely,
Andrea Netzer Murray & Abby Jones, Preschool Teachers

Kaitlyn Maichel, 5th grade
New Stanley Elementary School
Nominated by: Cindy Moore, James M. Jordan, Brandy Treaster & April Hoffman, teachers & Jennifer Spears, PE Teacher; Janet Postlewait, Librarian; Gloria Hastings, Music Teacher; & Marna Kerr, Art Teacher

“We would like to nominate Kaitlyn Maichel for Student of the Month.  Kaitlyn is a very motivated student that strives to do her very best.  She is willing to jump in and help a classmate when they are having a difficult time in class.  I have seen her ask classmates to play at recess when they are alone.  Our librarian says she works really hard academically and shows a great love of reading.  All of us agree that she is a great role model for other students.  She is compassionate, has self-control and is a good citizen.  She is a wonderful asset to the New Stanley Community!”

Sincerely,
Cindy Moore, James M. Jordan, Brandy Treaster, April Hoffman, Jennifer Spears, Janet Postlewait, Gloria Hastings, & Marna Kerr, the 5th grade teacher group from New Stanley

Pajah Vang, 4th grade
White Church Elementary
Nominated by: Emily Dennis, Teacher

“I have had the absolute privilege of having Pajah Vang in my class this year.  She has an eagerness for learning that is amazing and her perseverance in learning difficult concepts is refresing. Pajah pushes herself academically by studying things like The Bermuda Triangle.  She is a very positive young lady, who always seems to bring out the best in the people around her.  She encourages others and is quick to help someone with a problem—whether it be a fellow student or an adult in the building.  She participates with enthusiasm and is simply a delight to be around.  I can see Pajah being a huge success in her future endeavors!”

Sincerely,
Emily Dennis, Teacher

Mary Perez, 12th grade
J.C. Harmon High School
Nominated by:  Steve Howard, Teacher & Coach

“Mary Perez is a leader.  She has the natural ability to evolve to a leadership role in the school activities, girls cross country team or 20/20 Leadership and more.  Mary has always been hard working, goal oriented and dedicated.  She has always been available to help work with her classmates, makes them feel important.  I have had the privilege of working with Mary in cross country, math relays & more.  Mary is enrolled in college credit classes, is one of the top students in her class and is a member of the National Honor Society. She is a special young person with desire and drive and is very deserving of this nomination! ”

Sincerely,
Steve Howard, Teacher
