Standards for Admission to Sumner Academy

Screen I — Academic Criteria

    • Grade point average of at least 3.0 with no grade of “F” during grade six and the first semester of grade 7 in the following core areas: English, Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies
    • Seventh grade students must receive one of the following MAP score combinations:
      • Score at/above the 75th percentile on the MAP Math test and score at/above the 50th percentile on the MAP Reading test.
      • Score at/above the 75th percentile on the MAP Reading test and score at/above the 50th percentile on the MAP math test
    • Students will have two opportunities to meet the score requirements above:
      • During the Fall MAP assessment window
      • During the Winter MAP assessment window

    (Students meeting these academic requirements will proceed to Screen 2.)

Screen 2 — Attendance and Behavior Criteria

Records of students will be reviewed to determine their attendance and behavior in grade six and the first semester of grade seven. Requirements are:

  • Eligible students based on attendance shall be those who have five or fewer unexcused absences per semester contained in grade six and the first semester of grade seven.
  • Eligible students based on behavior shall be those who have no more than one suspension per semester contained in grades six and the first semester of grade seven.

Delayed Admission

Students may also be admitted to Sumner Academy of Arts and Science in grades 9 and 10, if they meet academic and behavior standards and if space is available.

Seventh grade students meeting the standards outlined above will automatically receive letters inviting them to enroll.

Eighth and ninth grade students meeting the standards who wish to enroll for the 9th or 10th grade must apply by contacting the Office of Student Services for an application. A committee will review all requests.

Estándares para la admisión a Sumner Academy of Arts and Science

Evaluación 1- Criterio Académico

Un promedio de por lo menos 3.0 con ninguna calificación de "F" durante el sexto grado y el primer semestre de séptimo grado en las siguientes áreas principales:

  • Inglés, matemáticas, lectura, ciencias, estudios sociales

Los estudiantes de séptimo grado deben recibir una de las siguientes combinaciones de las calificaciones MAP

Evaluación 2: Criterios de Asistencia y de Comportamiento

Se revisarán los expedientes de los estudiantes para determinar su asistencia y comportamiento en el sexto grado y el primer semestre del séptimo grado.

Los requisitos son los siguientes:

  • Los estudiantes elegibles, basándose en la asistencia serán los que tengan cinco o menos ausencias injustificadas por semestre en sexto grado y el primer semestre del séptimo grado.
  • Los estudiantes elegibles, basándose en comportamiento, serán los que no tengan más de una suspensión por semestre en los grados sexto y el primer semestre del séptimo grado

Admisión Retrasada

Los estudiantes también pueden ser admitidos a Sumner Academy of Arts and Science en los grados nueves y diez si cumplen con los estándares académicos y de comportamiento y si hay espacio disponible.

Los estudiantes en séptimo grado que cumplan con los estándares detallados anteriormente, automáticamente recibirán cartas invitándolos a inscribirse durante el mes de marzo del 2016.

Los estudiantes del octavo y noveno grado que cumplan con los estándares y deseen inscribirse para el noveno o décimo grado deben solicitarlo comunicándose al Departamento de Servicios Estudiantiles para obtener una solicitud. Aplicaciones estarán disponibles el 16 de noviembre del 2015. La solicitud debe ser completada y devuelta por 12 de febrero 2016. No se aceptarán solicitudes después de la fecha límite. Una comisión revisará todas las peticiones.
