Board of Education Highlights for Tuesday, December 11

During the December 11 Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools’ Board of Education meeting, the board approved and/or heard reports on the following items:

  • The construction manager at risk for the new Central Kitchen spoke to the board about their process for working with potential construction partners on the project, as well as the school district and the community.

  • The school district accepted an audit of the financial records of the school district from Mize, Houser & Company, PA. The annual audit found no material weakness or concerns for KCKPS. This means that the financial statements were presented in a fair and accurate manner. Click here to read the audit.

  • Human Resources Department continue to make progress in reducing the amount of vacancies at the school district. Recruitment Summary for December 2018:
    • 98.7 % of Certified vacancies filled
    • 5 General Education Teacher vacancies
    • 22 SPED Teacher vacancies
    • 3 current offers extended

Additionally, the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library introduced an innovative new app for students and the community to access data, books and other resources. To download the new app, search KCKPL on the App Store and Google Play. 

The board was treated to a special video and presentation on the need for recycling in their school by the members of the Mark Twain Elementary School Student Council. Photo below is of the Mark Twain students and members of the school’s faculty.
