The KCKPS Community Academy is our way of promoting a greater understanding of Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools, including the positive work happening throughout the district. In this program, you’ll gain greater insight into how the school district operates, as well as learn about the programs, including our highly-touted Diploma+ initiative that focuses on graduating our students with a high school diploma plus one of the following seven endorsements:

  • Completion of at least one full year of college (18-30 credit hours)
  • Completion of an Industry-Recognized Certificate or Credential
  • At least 21 on the ACT or 1060 on the SAT
  • Completion of the IB Diploma Programme or Career-Related Programme
  • Acceptance into the Military
  • Completion of a Qualified Internship or Industry-Approved Project
  • An Approved Plan for Post-Secondary Transition

The program began as a pilot in spring, 2017.  The concept was developed based on community requests for a program about our public schools similar to the citizen academies run by local law enforcement departments.

KCKPS Community Academy is open to:

  • individuals
  • church groups
  • community organizations
  • neighborhood associations
  • civic groups

Please ask about customization of the sessions for small groups.

Participants will:

  • learn how we’re preparing students to compete in a global society through the Diploma+ initiative
  • witness the exciting work and partnerships happening in the classrooms of Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools
  • gain greater knowledge about the mission, vision and goals of the school district
  • interact with staff, students and administrators
  • hear about achievements of the students and the district

Education Connection is a quarterly newsmagazine of the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS). Editorial content and photography are created by the KCKPS Communications Department. Issues are printed and mailed to area residents in the summer, fall, winter and spring.
