Sumner Donation from Leopold Gallery

For the past 10 years, Leopold Gallery and Art Consultant has collaborated with Jeff Novak and corporations such as, the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals to collect money to support the Fine Arts Department at Sumner Academy of Arts & Science. On Thursday, February 21st a $10,000 check was presented to the students from Leopold Gallery.

Paul Dorrell, president of the Leopold Gallery, strives to make sure art supplies are given to Sumner. Dorrell said, “With hard work and applying themselves they can do whatever.” Not only does the Leopold Gallery give back financially, they also mentor high school students on how to apply for college as well as provides students with a field trip to visit a university.

Dorrell expressed how important it is for students to go places where they can talk with an artist, see an art studio, and learn more about what they need to do in order to be accepted in a college or university. The lead of the Fine Arts Department Elizabeth Burns said, “A donation this size allows us to get equipment we wouldn’t have access to and allows the students to experience higher quality supplies.”

During his remarks at the check presentation, Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Charles Foust said, “Make sure you’re following your passion. Don’t settle. Continue to study hard, push yourself, and don’t give up.”
