Kansas City, Kansas Elementary Schools Celebrate Walk to School Day

OCTOBER 3, 2017 - Elementary schools around the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) are celebrating Walk to School Day with students and their families.

Banneker Elementary, 2026 N. 4th Street, Kansas City, KS, is marking this occasion by having all students take a short walk to school. Students, parents, guardians and staff members taking part in this event will be meeting at Juniper

Gardens recreation center, 444 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, KS, at 8:55 a.m. on October 4, 2017.

Frank Rushton Elementary, 2605 W. 43rd Ave., Kansas City, KS, is partnering with the Rosedale Development Association to host a Walk to School Day event. They are inviting students, parents and guardians and staff to meet at the mural at

Mission Road and 43rd Street at 7:45 a.m. on October 4, 2017.

Walk to School Day is an annual event sponsored by the National Center for Safe Routes to School. Its purpose is to promote walking for the following reasons:

  • Physical Activity
  • Teaching safe pedestrian skills to children
  • Reducing traffic congestion, pollution and speed near schools
  • Sharing time with community leaders, parents and children
