F.L. Schlagle Is Hosting a Community Open House

Kansas City, Kansas, November 30, 2017 – F.L. Schlagle High School, located at 2214 N. 59th Street, is hosting a Community Open House with something for the entire family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, December 11 at the school. “Together, A Better Community” is the theme of the event, which strives to contribute to a better community through the services and activities of the event.

Check out all of the FREE activities ranging from a health fair, to a forum about constitutional rights, an exhibition of student projects, a baking contest, a college application workshop, and a family fun zone:

  • Schlagle Health Fair
    • Come participate in a variety of health services including dental screenings, physicals, fitness classes, nutrition classes, CPR training, prevention education, disability awareness, and more. Pre-registration for some of the health services such as CVS Flu Shots (for those with insurance), Sports Physicals, Fitness Class, Pound Class and CPR Training are available at: https://tinyurl.com/SHSHealthfair2017.
  • Know-Your-Rights Forum
    • Come hear about the constitutional rights that all people have regardless of their documentation. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and learn more from an immigration attorney and a panel of other community advocates.
  • Student Projects Exhibition
    • Come see the amazing work students have accomplished this semester through their class projects and real-world learning opportunities.
  • Community Bake Off
    • Do you enjoy cooking? Come join our Bake-Off and submit your best holiday dessert. Do you enjoy eating holiday treats? Come sample the entries and help us select our community's best holiday baker!
  • FAFSA and College Application Workshop
    • Come receive help completing college applications and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
    • Find out more about the innovative Diploma+ program!  The goal of Diploma+ is for each student to graduate with a high school diploma plus one of the following seven endorsements:
    • Completion of one year of college
    • Completion of an industry-recognized certificate or credential
    • Achievement of at least 21 on the ACT or 1060 on the SAT
    • Completion of an IB Diploma Programme or Career-Related Programme
    • Acceptance into the military
    • Completion of a qualified internship or industry-approved project
    • An approved plan for post-secondary transition
  • Family Fun Zone and Refreshments
    • Bring your children to enjoy an evening of crafts, activities, and snacks.
