As some students enjoyed Field Day activities, other students were turning dirt for the groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the kick-off to improvements at Grant Elementary School. Those improvements consist of security upgrades, classroom additions, and a remodel of the school’s kitchen as part of the district’s 2016 zero-tax increase bond initiative.

The project, which will begin work in the spring of 2018, is tentatively scheduled for completion in the summer, 2018.

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools will host a groundbreaking event on Friday, May 18, at 10 a.m. at Grant Elementary School to celebrate the kick-off to improvements at the school. Those improvements consist of security upgrades, classroom additions, and a remodel of its kitchen as a part of the bond project.

Superintendent Honors Top KCKPS Students

Every year, Superintendent Dr. Cynthia Lane honors the top students throughout the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools. This year, more than 300 students met the rigorous qualifications required to be named on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll. These students were honored during an evening of celebration at Wyandotte High School this month.

The required qualifications are:

  • Secondary level students (grades 6-12) must have achieved straight “A’s” (with “B’s” in honors classes being considered the equivalent of an “A”) for the first three quarters of the school year.
  • Elementary level students (grades 2-5) must have achieved all “E’s and M’s” for the first three quarters of the school year.
  • Students must have been enrolled in the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools for the entire 2017-18 school year.
  • Students may have no disciplinary infractions during the school year.
  • Students may have no more than three unexcused absences during the school year.

Congratulations Gateway to College Graduates

Congratulations to the students who became graduates of the Gateway to College program on Saturday, May 12, at the Savior Pastoral Center in Kansas City, Kansas. This is a high school completion program between KCKPS and Donnelly College, where students earn their high school diploma and receive college credit.

Our students were honored as part of the 69th Commencement Ceremony of Donnelly College. KCK Board of Education member Janey Humphries, University of Kansas Cancer Center’s Dr. Liza Rodriguez and Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer, M.D., were among the speakers with words of inspiration for the graduates.

Prior to the presentation of the college candidates, Monsignor Stuart W. Swetland, President of Donnelly College, presented the Delta Award to Dr. Cynthia Lane for leadership in the field of education and service to the community.

Congratulations to all of the graduates and to Dr. Lane!

The Kansas City, Kansas School Foundation for Excellence presents the 28th annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at the Sunflower Hills Golf Course, 122nd and Riverview Ave., Bonner Springs, Kansas.

Since 1991, the Foundation has sponsored this annual fundraiser to benefit students. Proceeds from this year’s event will provide scholarships to high school seniors and support district literacy programs. Businesses and community members can enjoy a day on the golf course while supporting students in the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools.
