Sumner Academy Ranks No. 1 in Kansas on Washington Post’s List of Top High Schools in America

Annually, the Washington Post ranks how successfully schools challenge their students academically and Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools is proud to say Sumner Academy of Arts & Science continuously makes this stellar list.  Congratulations to Sumner Academy for ranking among “America’s Most Challenging High Schools” and coming in No. 1 on the list among the 12 Kansas high schools making the list in 2017.  Overall, Sumner ranks well at 408 on the 2017 list, which is higher than in 2016.

“Our school district is made up of thousands of students who showcase educational excellence every day as a result of their hard work and the leadership demonstrated by our teachers and administrators. It makes me extremely proud when our students and staff are honored for their work as is the case of this distinguished ranking of Sumner Academy,” said Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Cynthia Lane.  

According to the listing, Sumner Academy has an enrollment of 932 students. Among its graduating seniors, about 71% attend college with an impressive graduation rate of 100%.  Known for student academic achievement, Sumner Academy students performed well on the ACT and offers several International Baccalaureate (IB) courses.
