J.C. Harmon High School, 1983

Kevin Harvey has lived a dual life as citizen/soldier throughout his career. He sets the example of servant leadership through his actions and attitude.

Harvey spent 21 years as a logistics officer with the U.S. Amy National Guard. He planned and facilitated deployments of military personnel, managed more than $300,000 worth of government inventory and supplies, and developed and implemented yearly training plans for a military logistical support battalion. He believes that his greatest accomplishment in life is his service to his state and his country.

Today, Harvey is the president and CEO of The Harvey Center, a leadership management and educational consulting firm. He provides professional development seminars, training and technical assistance to educational organizations and businesses.

Over the years, he has invested his time to serve at-risk youth through Big Brothers and Sisters, the Boys and Girls Club and several faith-based organizations. He provided the vision for the Homeless Head Start model in Wichita, which provides a learning lab and comprehensive services for needy children and their families.

Harvey credits his teachers, coaches and his family for providing him a solid foundation to help prepare him for the realities of life. He learned discipline, mental toughness, how to win and lose gracefully and how to speak up – but also when not to speak.

He said, “I can read, write and communicate in a diverse workplace and global society – all highly influenced by my KCKPS education.”

Harvey has received the Army Accommodation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal and numerous other certificates of achievement for his military service.

His advice for today’s students is:
– Accept the spirit of inspiration and high expectations from adults.
– Demonstrate humility and give respect.
– Do your best because you never know who is watching or where it will lead.
