2002 Reasons to Believe Alumni Honor Roll
Wyandotte High School – Class of 1975
Family and friends gave Ron Berlin many reasons to believe when he was growing up. He believed in himself because others believed in him. His philosophy of “always do things to the best of your ability and anything is possible,” has empowered him to build a thriving business, while staying close to his Wyandotte Country roots. A 1975 graduate of Wyandotte High School, he has become a successful entrepreneur in every sense of the word.
His drive to succeed was evident as he began working part-time at United Parcel Service during high school. In 1987, Ron and his wife, Christine, started Austin Trailer and Truck Sales in a small building on Kaw Drive. As the company grew, so did its need for space. As a result, Ron and Christine moved their company from building to building, all the while keeping the business in Kansas City, Kan.
As sales for Austin Trailer and Truck Sales grew, Ron continued to work with UPS, balancing two jobs until 1993 when he and Christine decided it was time for him to devote his full attention to the company. During 2001, another milestone was reached as A&A Motor Sports was founded and a Polaris ATV/Watercraft franchise was added to the business. Their hard work earned a “First Year Top Performer” award from Polaris, given to only 14 franchisees in the country. The Berlin’s two companies operate with 15 employees and have combined sales of $5 million.
Ron is an active member of the Stevens United Methodist Church, as well as the Kansas City, Kansas and Leavenworth County Chambers of Commerce. His firm belief in community is evidenced by his support of more than half a dozen community groups and events, including Raytown Sports Association, Lee’s Summit American Legion Baseball, KCPT-19 Public Auction, and Piper Public School’s Odyssey of the Mind.
The Berlins reside in Kansas City, Kan., and have two children, Austin and Aaron.
