Awards and Recognition

The Board recognized and honored the District’s Employee of the Month, and Students of the Month

Employee of the Month

Amber Block is and Instructional Coach for the District. Her nominator Ms. Megan Roberson says, “Amber is an incredible example of leadership in our school family. She’s one of the hardest working people I know, and despite her plate always being full, she never turns down an opportunity to help someone else or learn something new. As the instructional coach in our building, Amber is dedicated to working beside us on student-centered strategies that strengthen our classrooms and keep our priorities on the ones who matter most. She is a safe place to many students and teachers, because her heart knows no boundaries,” 

Student of the Month Recognition

The Board and Superintendent congratulated the following students for being selected Student of the Month for January.

Joshua Weber – ECE – Silver City Elementary
Mary Darji – 4th Grade – Quindaro Elementary
Alicia Navarro – 8th Grade – Gloria Willis Middle School
Ezequiel Cuevas-Perez – 11th Grade – J.C. Harmon High School

Carol Levers, Director of Libraries, provided a brief update on the library project and asked for Board approval to move forward with discussions and information gathering with Garcia Architecture for possible concepts of the Main Library Building project.

The Board approved the Consent Agenda. Lenora Miller, Executive Director of Operations, provided a status on the applicants selected to serve on the Boundary Committee. The appointment is for 2 years and the dates of the Committee Meetings will be:

  • Thursday, February 24th from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm
  • Thursday, March 10th from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm
  • Thursday, March 23rd from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm

Board Reports

  • Tiffany Lewis, Health Services Director, provide an update on the Staff COVID-19 testing policy. As we continue to navigate through this health pandemic, it is important that we ensure we have the appropriate protocols and processes in place for employee testing.  The Health Services Department will pause employee COVID testing until March 7, 2022, as we work to find options to continue employee testing.
  • Dr. Judith Campbell, Associate Superintendent of Leadership and Learning, provide the board with an update on the upcoming summer school program for all current PK-12th grade students free of charge. The program is designed to help students maintain the skills acquired during the regular school year, while helping to obtain new skills and instructional strategies for the upcoming school year.
  • Dr. Anna Stubblefield shared the results from live Though Exchange survey regarding the proposed change to school bell times and middle school ridership eligibility. The Board asked for the community’s input regarding these changes.  KCKPS utilized the Thought Exchange platform to engage the community and capture their thoughts and feedback.

  1. Recess to Executive Session for Consultation with the Attorney on Matters Which Would be Deemed Privileged in the Attorney-Client Relationship Under Kansas Open Meetings Act
  2. Recess to Executive Session to Discuss Matters of Non-Elected Personnel in Order to Protect the Privacy Interests of the Party(s) Involved under KOMA
