The Board of Education renewed several Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) and/or contracts with the following organizations for the upcoming school year: A MOU was approved with the University of Kansas Medical Center, the University of Kansas Family Medicine Foundation and Communities Creating Opportunities for the BullDoc Clinic located at Wyandotte High School. The BullDoc clinic was established to provide all Wyandotte students, including those without health insurance, school-based primary care services and mental healthcare. The Board congratulated the 2020 Leadership students, Sumner Academy of Arts and Science International Baccalaureate Diploma candidates and the Challenge Award recipients at their meeting. During the April 23, 2018 special Board of Education Meeting, there was a discussion of the survey results for the superintendent search. There were 576 responses to the District Review Survey and 839 responses to the 30 Qualities Survey.?? The online surveys were advertised by local media and shared on the district's website and social media pages. The board received an update on the tremendous progress associated with the opening of the Welcome Center on April 9 and the first class of Saturday Family Language Academy. The Welcome Center is a one-stop shop for families new to the school district to enroll their children in our schools. The Saturday Family Language Academy are classes for the entire family to learn English in a relaxed environment. The next Academy will be held in the fall 2018. The board approved an agreement with Williams, Spurgeon, Kuhl & Freshnock Architects, Inc. to design the new centralized kitchen, which will be used to cook and distribute food district wide, as well as serve as a learning environment for students in the culinary arts program. In a matter related to the building of the centralized kitchen, the board asked staff to rebid the construction manager for the central kitchen. The board decided not to renew the school district's contract with Morgan Hunter for substitute services. The current contract will expire on June 30, 2018. The school district will explore taking care of these services internally in the future. An update was presented to the board regarding the progress underway at four construction projects made possible by the 2016 voter-approved zero-tax increase bond referendum.
