Amazon Future Engineer with Edhesive (AFE) is a program designed for students interested in Computer Science and Coding. This is the first academic school year for the program at Washington High School taught by Rachel Rozell. Students are independently, self- learning the fundamentals of coding through the program, Python.
AFE’s digital curriculum provider, Edhesive, offers live online tutor support and professional development for teachers. College scholarships are provided and if awarded, the student will receive $10,000 annually for up to four years while maintaining a minimum GPA and staying on course with degree requirements. Those who obtain a scholarship will also have a guaranteed paid summer internship at Amazon after their first or second year of college. Rozell expressed the significance of having AFE’s curriculum as “coding is our future.”
With the program taking off to great heights, junior Sandy Fields explained how having this class has helped him obtain his internship with Cerner. “I know I’ve always wanted to major in Computer Science and having this class has taught me the functions and basics of coding.”
