KCKPS Police Department

Our mission is to establish safe and secure learning environments for our future leaders to learn, grow and succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

Established in 2014, the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools Police Department provides a full array of police services to our school district communities. Our staff is highly trained and qualified to provide various services including prevention, intervention, and law enforcement with a focus on creating a safe learning environment for our students, families, staff, and visitors. Our officers are fully certified by the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training (KS-CPOST) and have been provided comprehensive and quality training from Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC). School District Police Officers have the same authority of other local law enforcement officers and are authorized to enforce all laws and may arrest individuals found in violation of those laws. Additionally, officers may write citations for appropriate offenses that are covered by Kansas State Statutes and local laws.

The officers and staff of the KCKPS Police Department are committed to safe educational settings by providing a diverse level of service, utilizing problem solving techniques, and embracing lasting partnerships for all stakeholders. Officers of the district answer calls for service as well as provide other functions as needed. Some officers are assigned to a particular school. Others work in the patrol division and respond to various locations inside the district. Officers take a unique approach to working with children in the District. Not only do they perform the traditional enforcement role, they also are heavily involved in prevention, and education strategies of the District.
