Dear USD500 families,
Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools is partnering with Children’s Mercy Hospital and the Wyandotte County Health Department to host an optional COVID-19 vaccination clinic during the school day for Kansas City Kansas Public Schools students ages 16 and older. We plan to provide the 1st dose of Pfizer Bio-NTech vaccine Monday, May 3rd or Tuesday, May 4th. The district request that if you plan to get the vaccine, to have all the needed documents filled out and returned by Thursday, April 29th.
If you are 18 or over, you will not need parent consent.
We have included links to videos for you to view that will help guide your decision to vaccinate or not to vaccinate. One of the advantages that is not listed in the videos is that if your child is fully vaccinated, they will not be required to quarantine if exposed to a positive COVID family member or classmate.
Along with the videos, you will be asked to read the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine Fact Sheet for Recipients and Caregivers (linked below). After reading the information, parents will be required to fill out the COVID-19 Vaccine Consent Form from Children’s Mercy Hospital. In addition, you will need to fill out the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools Consent Letter, which is also linked below. By registering your child to receive the vaccine, you are granting consent for your child to be vaccinated at their high school. If needed, copies can be picked up at your child’s school.
Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools recognizes that the decision to receive the COVID-19 vaccine is a personal choice. It is optional and is not required of any of our students to attend school. The district wants to make it available for students that want to be vaccinated. Our best advice is to review the information provided so that you can make the best decision for your family.
Students who plan to participate in summer school, summer athletic conditioning or workouts, and fall tryouts, and fall sports will not have to quarantine if they are exposed but have been fully vaccinated.
Information from Children’s Mercy:
Children’s Mercy staff will be giving the COVID-19 vaccination at your child’s high school for anyone age 16 years and older, May 3rd or May 4th. If you would like your child to be vaccinated, please complete the COVID-19 Vaccine Interest Form. Once it has been submitted, Children’s Mercy will text a link to the consent form to the cell number or email that you provide, within two days of the clinic. Please submit this form the day that you receive it. This will allow us time to receive it and get your child scheduled. Please note: In the rare event that a severe allergic reaction occurs, treatment will be provided on-site but 911 will be called and your child will be transported to the hospital for further care.
