Sumner Academy – National Speech and Debate Association

Congratulations to Sumner Academy Junior JaKayla Brown for being a NSDA (National Speech and Debate Association) National Qualifier. JaKayla qualified in the Dramatic Interpretation category and that is not all. Sumner Academy Senior Jaleon Brown was named the 2021 East Kansas NSDA Student of the Year. Jaleon also qualified for nationals in Dramatic Interpretation and Program of Oral Interpretation.

Wyandotte High School – Give Back Scholars

Give Back Scholars

Big congratulations are in order for three Wyandotte High School students who were selected to be Give Back Scholars. Freshman Angelina Rai, Junior Natalina Mussa, and Senior Sydrionna Rolls all received four-year, full-ride scholarships to Kansas universities through the program last Friday. They can choose to go to K-State, Wichita State, Baker or Pitt State. The Give Back program is more than just financial aid, the scholars also benefit from a mentoring and support program in both high school and college. Way to go!

Schlagle High School and Sumner Academy – The Coterie’s Young Playwright’s Festival

Each spring, The Coterie premieres the Young Playwrights’ Festival, an evening showcasing new works by some of Kansas City’s most talented teen playwrights, two of whom are from KCKPS! Congrats to Cheyenne Crew from F.L. Schlagle and Kayleeann Milborn from Sumner Academy for having their scripts selected to be performed on May 2.
