Gloria Willis Middle School

Caleb Harris portraitCaleb Harris is an 8th grade student at Gloria Willis Middle School. He submitted an essay on the topic of “My Hero” for which he wrote about his mother, LaNetta Watson, for an essay contest sponsored by DiPasquale Law firm and DKC (Debate Kansas City). Caleb was informed about the contest and encouraged to enter by his debate coach Mrs. Ebony Tolbert. In February he was contacted by DiPasquale Law Firm that he was a finalist in the contest and invited to attend an awards ceremony. During the virtual ceremony Caleb was awarded 2nd place and received a Nike gift card as his prize. He was given the opportunity to meet Attorney Mike DiPasquale and retrieve his prize at the law firm. Mr. DiPasquale took the opportunity to encourage Caleb to continue with debate and pursue his goals and dreams.  For Caleb to have the desire to write an essay and participate in a contest during a pandemic speaks volumes about his drive and ambition. It is one of his goals to become an attorney and with his drive there’s no doubt that he can achieve it!
