The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) television channel will be temporarily off air on Friday, April 24, 2020, to upgrade the broadcast system. The TV channel is available on Google Fiber channel 145 and Spectrum channel 18.
The district produces an array of quality videos that highlight various events and activities both inside and outside the classroom. The new automation system includes multiple intelligent solutions such as video-on-demand, digital signage, video streaming, an instant web presence, and chaptering.
The Board of Education meetings and video content is currently accessible through the district’s YouTube channel and other social media platforms. The upgrade improves outreach, access to information, and provides more options to viewers that strengthens our communication efforts.
The district’s channel will be streamed on the web, enabling individuals without a cable subscription access to board meetings and other video content no matter where geographically located. New Video On-demand features provide viewers with the option of selecting what they want to watch and when they want to watch it at their leisure.
Agendas, meeting minutes, and documents can now be attached to video files with Video On-demand Chaptering. Staff can insert chapter markers during public meetings making it easier and faster to access items discussed during the meeting. The agendas and minutes will also be available for download on any device.
Also, the upgrade includes digital signage software that allows us to create, publish, and manage messages when video programming is not scheduled. The messages will include twitter feeds, the channels playout schedule, weather conditions, and much more.
The robust system has an array of new features to help us share and promote the remarkable achievements that are taking place in our schools. We are committed to keeping our community tuned-in and informed through our professional and high-quality video production.
The project began on Monday, April 20, 2020, and is on schedule for completion by Friday of the same week. We thank you for your patience during the installation of our new system. If you have any questions, please contact the Communications Office at 913-279-2242.
If you’re interested in viewing a past meeting during the upgrade, please visit the District’s YouTube Channel.
