Two Sumner Academy Students Received a Four-Year Scholarship from the Rudd Foundation

The Rudd Foundation has announced their second class of Rudd Scholars to receive a four-year college scholarship to attend either Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University or Wichita State University. Julie Gonzalez- Morales and David Nevarez- Saenz from Sumner Academy, were two out of the 25 students selected for this scholarship. Both students have chosen to attend Wichita State University.

The Rudd scholarship is a four-year renewable program which will cover remaining tuition, fees, books, supplies, and room and board. “We expect them to maintain their grades and graduate in four years and in return they will earn their degree debt free,” said Peter Najera, president of the Rudd Foundation. Morales and Saenz went through a competitive process. This process not only reflects their academic performance, they also have to write essays, obtain letters of recommendation and qualify for a personal interview. In addition to attending their university of choice, the students will connect with leaders in their future profession, receive mentoring and stay in contact with future scholars.
